Preston Fun Dog Show - Held Sunday 29th June 2008

On the 29th June we held our Dog Show and Open Day at the Animal Centre in Preston and it proved to be a huge success raising over £1200 and over 80 dogs entered in the show.

The winner of the Dog of the Year heat which will go through to the National RSPCA competition to represent the Preston Branch was an Otterhound called Bailey, who was brought into the Centre emaciated after being found abandoned as a stray in the Preston area. He was adopted by the Atkinson family and they have said 'Bailey has changed our lives, he settled in immediately and has become one of the family.' They love him very much and said his party trick is sitting on his back legs and cuddling you with his front paws.

Mark Sim the supervisor at the Centre said 'When Bailey came into the Centre it was awful, he was so thin it was one of the worst cases of skin and bone I have ever seen, and his coat was all matted and dirty, we all felt so sorry for him. It is great to see him so happy and for him to have won the Dog of the Year heat is a great example of a rescue dog living happily ever after'.

The National Vote for the Dog of the Year Heat is due around the first week in September and will be on the National RSPCA web site and we will keep you posted on how you can vote and support Bailey in becoming the RSPCA Dog of the Year for 2008.

A BIG THANK YOU has to go to all of the volunteers, staff, committee and helpers on the day as well as those that donated many of the prizes and gifts. Some of these include the local Scout group, St Johns Ambulance, The Fox Cub, Hutchinsons Vets, Tesco in Chorley, The Coop family, the Deputy Mayor, Ribbleton Service Station, The Dressers Arms, James Wellbeloved and many more.
