Preston & District RSPCA Animal Centre rescues thousands of animals each year. The animals come into the Centre from various situations; stray, mistreated or neglected, sick or injured, or simply because their owners no longer want them. The work the Branch carries out costs in the region of £250,000 each year. We cannot exaggerate enough that we rely entirely on local donations from the people like yourselves; we receive no state aid, lottery grants or financial help from the National RSPCA. We really need your help to maintain this level of animal welfare. Visit the Safe Haven Scheme Page >>> ABANDONED ANIMALS In recent months the Branch has sadly seen numerous animals being dumped, tied up, or abandoned at the Centre. This is not only extremely stressful for the animals involved, but also puts huge pressure on the Branch and the staff taking care of the animals. Throughout the year, there are many occasions where the Branch already becomes full with our intake of residents that have come from all sorts backgrounds; mistreated, neglected, sick or injured, unwanted, stray and abandoned. We also have a non-destruction policy, unless the animal is suffering or dangerous. Dana is a beautiful female Akita that was left tied to the railings in August 2008. Her owner clearly no longer wanted Dana, but unfortunately we never found out why. Because she was abandoned we sadly do not know any of her likes, or dislikes, not even her real name, or her exact age. Luckily Dana is in the process of being adopted with a lovely family, it is just a shame she was put through a stressful ordeal. Seven rabbits were also dumped on the road at the top of the Centre's drive. We were alerted by a member of public who had seen the gentleman offloading several different rabbits by the side of the road. Staff drove up to them and thankfully managed to bring them all to safety. They are all well, and are now looking for new homes |
